Bomber aircraft are generally assumed to be large but in the modern era of multi-role
and swing-role aircraft they come in all shapes and sizes. With defence budgets being ever
tightened many aircraft have been modified and given enhanced equipment to allow them to
fulfil a number of missions. The later versions of the F-15 and F-16 are perfect examples
of how an air-superiority fighter has become a bomber aircraft. Others like the Tornado
were designed from the outset as two different versions of the same airframe. Many will
remember the F-105 and F-4 carrying huge bombloads over Vietnam let alone the F-100D which
was capable of delivering a nuclear weapon. Just because the aircraft is of modest size
and may have only one or two engines doesn't mean that it packs a smaller punch than some
of its four engined brethern.
